Hey there, I recently got a P2k. I had it fitted and started to ride it and noticed that the seatpost keeps slidding down during each ride, no matter how hard I tighten it. Has anyone had this problem and, if so, do you know how I can keep the seatpost in place? Thanks for your help here!
My P3 has a brass shim between the post and the frame. Does your P2?
Aloha,
Larry
As Larry said, be certain the brass device is in place that protects the seatpost and the frame. Also, don’t overtighten the seatpost binder bolt. I don’t know the torque setting by heart but it may be on the Cervelo website. In any event, it is likely an easily corrected situation at home. Let us know what happens. Happy Holidays!
One of the reasons that I am posting is that there is a shim. And the seat slides no matter how much (or little) I tighten things. All of this leaves me a little stumped…
Had the same problem with my P2. Try wrapping the seatpost with a thin layer of teflon tape. I also use a little reflector binder at the interface of the seatpost and seat tube and that has been working for me.
Stupid solutions to a stupid design(on the P2 at least).
Just call customer service on Monday morning and they’ll determine what the problem is and what the solution.
I had a similar problem with my new P2k last May, except it made a creaking sound and would slip in such small amounts that it took me a while to find it.
It turns out that I was simply being too gentle with it. I counted the turns that I gave the bolt and gave it half a turn more. It continued slipping so I gave it 1/4 turns until it stopped. Now I know by feel how much torque to use and have never had a problem again.
Yup, I have a soloist - I think it’s a 2003, I bought it a year ago - and I have the same problem, riding around like a clown when the seat post slips all the way down the tube. My LBS put some locktite or something like that on it, and it’s held very well, but I’m still wary.
I called Excelsports (from where I bought the bike) and they recommended that I wipe the grease (or graphite) off of the brass shim. I wiped it off both sides pretty thoroughly and rode for an hour and a half yesterday and it seemed to work. Hopefully that will remain the case.
