A competitor in today’s Endure Batavia Triathlon has been taken to hospital after an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) otherwise known as a drone, fell from the sky hitting her on the head.
The competitor, Raija Ogden was heading into her second lap of the run leg of the race on the Foreshore when the incident occurred.
The remote-controlled copter struck her head and she fell to the ground.

It looks like she’s fine (though she did have to be taken to the hospital), with “minor injuries to the head”.

I was actually considering getting a drone with camera mount because I thought the photo possibilities would be pretty good, but this was what I thought might happen if I tried to use it in a crowd. Has anyone been at a race with drone photos? Anyone got any samples? I’m curious what they end up looking like.

I hope its camera was on before impact. That’d be a race photo to remember

last year at a small, school-sponsored sprint in SoCal they had a couple flying over the swim start…I thought it was cool, though I never saw any photos of it. This incident will cause some race directors to double think it in the future!

There’s a guy in San Francisco area that has posted some cyclocross videos taken by drone.
They look really cool and show a good view of the races.

Might be best to film parallel rather than directly over a course.
