Skip workout...or change workout?

OK, this relates primarily to my run training…let’s say I’ve got a workout planned (50 min run on Sat.)…however, the NEXT day is an important workout in my week (Sunday long run)…so I start my Saturday run and I’m just gassed from the week of training…should I stop and regroup for Sunday…or run 25-30 mins? Which is more beneficial? I usually don’t skip the workout…and make it through the next days workout just fine…just wondering what most of you do? (Same thing could happen mid week, maybe day before a hard tempo run…rest or easy run?)

Guess it matters where you are in your season (base, build, whatever), the type of event you’re training for, your experience level and so forth. Generally speaking, you want to be as fresh as possible for the BT or key workouts…if in the process of building to an IM - my inclination would be to not run the day before a long, tempo or other important run session.

Gordo Byrn likes to say that running is too difficult on the body to be a “recovery” or “easy” workout.

Maybe the answer to your question is to do some strides on a soft surface and keep the total run time to 30 minutes.

At 42, I try not to run on consecutive days when training for triathlon (marathon or the like is a different story though)

Post your schedule and some history.
