Sizing of P2 Cervelo ( 2013)

I am buying my first bike and have found a great deal( I think) on a p2 Cervelo (2013) Ultegra, new, in store for $1600.
The only concern is that I am 6ft 3 1/2 and the frame is a 58cm. Was wondering if you can advise if it will work. I will be fit to it in store
but its a 1hr drive and don’t want them “fitting” me to the bike instead of putting me on something that might be better.

My measurements are:

Leg length: 34
Torso: 29
Arm: 28
Shoulder: 17.5
Thigh: 16
Foot: 11
Height: 75

Thanks in advance

Well you have somewhat mutually exlusive ideas in your post. You say you’ve found a great deal (which it is), but unfortunately that deal is ONLY on a 58 classic P2. Then you say you don’t want them “fitting” you to the bike. So what are you looking for, a great deal orrr…?

Subsequently, I am sure you could fit fine on a 58. Sure, maybe a 61 would be “better” but what is “better” to you? What are you basing “better” on?

The 61 is a lot “taller” than the 58 but isn’t a whole lot longer. So your fit being “better” on one vs the other just kind of depends.

Depends on how flexible and fit you are. If you have a bad back or generally ride in an upright position, then the 58 will probably be too small without a ton of non-aero headtube spacers.

I am 6’5 and ride what I am told is a 59 now. I am looking at the P2/3 also. I am going to see if I can get them with the same specs on a 58 as my
existing bike. I really do not want a huge stack. But will have to see.

.

My wife and I ride P2’s. I am 5 feet 11.5 in tall and I ride a 56cm. My wife is 5’8" and rides a 54cm. We have both been fit twice by RETUL. My opinion is that a 58cm is perfect for you. I had a debate myself, and wondered if I should ride a 58… like I wanted more space or room for my knees. A triathlete bike should fit smaller than a road bike, you want to have your weight shifted forward over the pedals and over the front bars… I think it sounds fine

I just want to be more comfortable. For my first few 70.3s I rode a 56cm feltB2 and my back was sore.
Alternatively in the store there is a 2011 Specialized Transition expert in XL for few hundred more, so maybe that’s a better move.

Well the Transition in that size has a stack/reach of 542 - 421 whereas the P2 classic in a 58 is 550-440, so the Transition is “smaller” in some respects.

What is your ideal stack and reach? I am as tall as you and don’t really fit on any Cervelo, but if I did it would be like a 54…

That’s interesting, I didn’t know that it was smaller. As for ideal stack height?. Not a clue.

I ride a 58 2008 P2 which I believe is the exact same frame you are looking at other than paint scheme (think the frame change came in 2014). I am 6 ft. 3 in. and currently ride with the seat in the front position and I believe a 100 stem (might only be a 90). Plenty of options to stretch out more if needed. Very adjustable bike.

Is the stack really that important? Seems if it is smaller, you have a better chance to get lower.

Seems the reach is the more critical?

The above is what I am assuming when I go look at a 58 P2.

They are both “critical.” Frame stack and reach are one paradigm for analyzing fit, armpad stack and reach are another. They are all just points in space that can be manipulated quite easily through stems, bars, spacers, etc. The point is not which is more or less “critical” the point is having an understanding of what all the numbers mean.
