Single speed on a trainer

Building up an old frame as a single speed (not fixie) bike that will be permanently mounted on my computrainer. Only use the trainer in ergo mode, so I don’t need the gears, etc. So, that being said, do you think I need a tensioner or will I be OK going naked?

Thoughts?

If just using single speed you can use an old derailleur as a tensioner. Eliminates having to find a perfect chain length. Also permits you to change gears (by changing chainring ) without futzing with chain length.

Otherwise without a tensioner you may find it a pain when it’s time to change the tire.
