Since TTX was the fastest TT today..I am

going to run to the store and get a Trek TTX…hahahahhahahhah why do people think that you have to have this or that piece of equipment to excel… Norman Stadler had the fastest Kona split on a Kuota…I don’t know what G. Lemond was riding in his fastest Tour TT split in history (where he averaged 54km/hour) Is equipment really the factor? I think not. If that was the case, times today would kill the 89’ split that Lemond had. Do you ever notice that after a major race, someone will get on line and talk about how they should go buy a TTX or something. Isn’t it about machine? Our legs? I mean do you think Louis Armstrong played with a $10,000 trumpet to achieve that sound? How many people riding back discs in a race have you dropped? Ahhhand it feels so good!! What do you guys think about these “equipment people” that think they can somehow compensate for power???

“Dont forgot the legs” M.Indurain

Greg was on a bike that was made by Yammagucci, rebadged to say Botecchia. He had Scott aero bars and Look clipless pedals. Those are the Mavic crank and BB - best crankset and BB ever.

record, did he have a small wheel in front like a hooker has? or is that just the pic angle?

I think now however that the bike Greg was on is not UCI compliant - now as opposed to hearing him bitch about all the TdF’s that he would have won “if only”, the French and UCI are going to try to get a retroactive ban - and take back all of Greg’s yellow jerseys.

Yeah… its not the bike that makes the rider, its who you get your blood from

Small front wheel…650c I believe, but I may be wrong.

That “Bottechia” is SWEET. How about that aero bottle too?

To the OP…yes, a LARGE part of the aero drag is from your body. But, once you’ve done everything you can to optimize that part of the equation, what’s wrong also tweaking/improving the smaller contributors?

That is a Mavic rim tubular (700) on the front - Open GL if I recall properly. It is on a Mavic hub and bladed spokes - after that I had to buy (and still have) the same front wheel. Only I got a black hub. 28 spoke, 2X, Wheelsmith ovals with alloy nipples.

I’m pretty sure that is a funny bike. look at that head tube size and they were at their height during the lemond times

I sure hope people got out in droves and buy the TTX. It will keep Carl employed

And you discovered that absolutely new, never heard before fact all alone?

Wow, you’re the new Albert Einstein.
May I have a autographed pic from you?

Yeah, and looking at his position it’s remarkably good by today’s standards, probably more aero than quite a few Tour TTers yesterday…outside of the spaceballs helmet of course.

Equipment can compensate for power, that is a fact.

what now?

Some people have money to blow on equipment, let them. It is good for the sport and doesn’t hurt anybody.

Actually, I was thinking yesterday that amongst the top contenders, there are actually a lot of good “looking” positions (at least by my “eye”, take that for what it’s worth)…it was difficult to find any real apparent blunders.

Don’t diss that helmet…it’s probably lower drag than a lot of supposed “aero” helmets…and you’ve got to LOVE the neon yellow color!

are you sure those pics are from the tour? They showed the clip yesterday and it appeared Greg’s bike was two 700c wheels (unlike Fignon) and i seem to recall it was painted white.

anyhow, what baffles me is that Lemond bitches how the peleton is so much faster than his day because of doping (despite superior equipment and team radios since he was riding) YET no-one can come close to his TT record (and that was ridden partially on cobblestones!) on far superior equipment and aerodynamics…hmmmmmm…

i would love to see test results of his physiology compared with the likes of Armstrong, Indurain and Ullrich (doped or not there is no denying Ullrich had enormous talent).

“I mean do you think Louis Armstrong played with a $10,000 trumpet to achieve that sound?”

But on the other hand he didn’t play with a $50 trumpet either. Equipment does matter up to a point.

That TT was a point to point course with a very strong tailwind (and a net loss in elavation as well I believe). You don’t get that combination that often.

If you take a look at the geometry of that bike, you’ll notice that it is EXTREMELY slack - Greg’s preference. That man has some long femurs…

fair point then…and good for Greg that he has an excuse I suppose…
