I was really excited about this race: perfect time for me (late fall) - close to home (6 hr drive). Then I looked at the course - if I’m reading the profile correctly - then the bike has almost 10,000 feet of climbing! Thats seems like a ton…I’d like an “easier” full for my first I think…And you only get to descend 9000 feet. Run looks like 700-800 per 13.1 mile lap (not sure how that compares…). How much vertical gain at LP/Canada?
I was thinking a bike with 2000-3000 feet climbing to mix things up, a flat run, an easy swim, beautiful location, little to no wind, not too humid, not too hot or cold, no rain - not too crowded and close to home (I can fly though) would be perfect - this exist? Oh yeah - Oct/Nov please. I want to enter last minute too.
Back to Silverman - the show girls at the finish sounds nice (would they still be there when I finished?). The family would love a trip to Vegas…
I live in Henderson and do most of my riding down by Lake Mead.
The bike course is tough. I have ridden all those roads. Don’t come to Vegas for a PR! But if you do, be very “bike strong” on the hills. I bet many will push too big a bike and then crack very early on the run. Those 6-8% grades will do that to the weak.
I think Silverman will be a good/great triathlon. As to your request we will provides 5000 ft elevation gain (most in the first 60 miles), crystal clear water, flat run, temp in the 60’s-70’s desert air. Last year had the worst wind in 30 years though…typical for the date is no wind. Great schwag. community support etc. Plus qualifier for 2006 World Long Course in Australia.
The profile on the website (Grand Columbian) - chart at bottom says 7500+ feet of climbing and 8000 of descending - are those charts accurate (as the Silverman chart is of the same type)?
Love the response about the no wheel sucking. You will definitely have fun on this bike course. There will not be much drafting going on. I am from Henderson and ride this area quite a bit so if anyone would like to come down and have an early preview I would be up for showing you around. Make sure you bring your 39-27 gear ratio as you will need it. Good Luck to all particpate
