Silverman...only 151 age groupers?

Is that right? I looked up the results, and that’s what it showed. The race sounds like an awesome challenge. If it’s still going in 2008 I’m in, and hoping for a bigger crowd though…151 is awfully lonely.

I think there where 210 starters. The rest DNF’d or missed cut offs.

I loved Silverman this year! I thought it was going to be lonely but the camaraderie was second to none. We all felt we were part of something epic.

And it was so cool to have Dave Scott and Tyler Hamilton among us without huge numbers swarming them. And I have to say that 250 people, or whatever the number was, made for a nice swim start.

I am definitely doing the race again next year. I have a race report with lots of pics but can’t figure out how to post them on this board – neither FF nor the new IE works.

Yeah, and no one in my age group…hopefully it will be that way next year too!

~250 starters. It was a little lonely. I only passed one person and no one passed me from mile 65 to the end. My RR is here:

I have some unofficial stats I compiled. I compared the individual finishers list to the race day tracking list.

279 Individual racers were listed on the race day coverage. I doubt there were 279 who were registered. The participants list that was on the Silverman web site listed 245 people.

151 Finishers
42 DNF’s. (Made the swim and later DNF’ed)
82 DNS or didn’t finish the swim. This number is too high, I think it’s closer to 35.

Again, this is unoffical and the numbers don’t add up exactly right.

Not to throw ice water on the party, but I remember reading in an email from Set Up, Inc. regarding the decision to cancel the Blue Devil in 2006. They said something like 300 entrants were the minimum to keep an IM race going. The Blue Devil’s field fell to about 220 in the last two years year and poof! it is no more.

Don’t get me wrong, I like independent IM races. I just hope Silverman doesn’t fall to the same fate.

In 2007 a half and half relay is being added. This should help keep the event alive.

I think they might do well on the corporate sponsorship end?

That might help keep the event alive.
