Silverman need 2:30 marathoner for $100,000

Does anyone know of a marathoner that can run 2:30? I am trying to find a swimmer who can go under :50 and a cyclist who can do the ride in 4:30, now I am in need of a marathoner. My masters coach wants to do the relay and try to break 8 hours. He can cover the swim portion in 50 min. I also have a cyclist who would be interested if we can find a marathoner who can run a 2:30. The payout would be $33,000 each. If anyone knows of anyone let me know!

Riiiiiiggghhht.

Why not just look at marathon results and see if you can contact anyone?

2:30? He’ll have to be faster than that. Try 2:10-2:15.

Tyler Hamilton went 4:33 last year… you have a cyclist of that quality lined up? You better… or you’re not going to break 8 hours…
I wonder what Floyd is doing these days?

You’ll definitely want someone much faster than 2:30 if you want to take home the money, in which case you’ll be better off looking for a foreign marathon runner as all the top American guys will be running the Olympic Trials the week before Silverman.

i hear Vino is free…

Racing Lance at the Leadville 100 next weekend. Seems like that would be a good primer for Silverman course.

you better tell your masters coach to also look for a swimmer that goes sub 45. Because if I were the 2:30 runner and the 4:30 cyclist I wouldn’t team up with a sub 50 swimmer, I would want a sub 45 swimmer for sure.

I just want to go watch. I know that the course it tough and you would be running the marathon at noon, by yourself. It is a lot different than anything most runners have done before.

Nope, Lance isn’t doing Leadville.

He was, then wasn’t, and I just read he was again. Did that chance for a 3rd time?

I ran 3:30 in last years Cape Cod Marathon…but since then I have hooked up with Coach Kurt Perham. Under his guidance I am ready to break the 2:30 mark this year. Give me a call at 1-800-NOT-GONNAHAPPEN and I will race with you guys.
PS. I could do the bike also

Post on running boards, you’d have better chance.

I hadn’t heard that the 100k was up for grabs again this year, that’s great if true…

You have several flaws in your quest. First of all the prize breakdown. Sub 50 swimmers are a dime a dozen, and sub 45 swimmers are about a dollar more. The swimmer should get no more than about 15k, and that’s for a sub 45 guy.

There is no such thing as a 4:30 cyclsit at Silverman, yet. What you need is a sub 4:20 cyclist or so from another Ironman, or the equilevant. That should be easy, since you have narrowed it down to about 10 guys…This guy gets the lions share of the money, he is the rarest of the bunch, and will require the most money to start. About 50k will do it…

Lastly, you do need a 2:15 runner or faster on other courses to have a chance. We all saw last year what a 2:11 guy does on his own, late in the heat of the day, without any pacing…This guy has to be smart, and is totally dependent on the first two, otherwise it is a training day. That happened to the other 3 great teams last year, out of contention for the 8 hours, so the runners backed off and did a long training run… This guy gets 35K or so, and if you actually do win, he will have earned it. There are a lot to choose from here, like the swimmers, just look at the Kenyan roster for their trials…

And after all that, you actually have to beat any other teams that go under 8 hours, not just do it yourselves… It is entirely doable, last years conditions were tough, but not out of the ordinary for that time of year. The swim was the worst, but that is where you lose the least time. Those guys that won would have gone 41 minutes or so. The bike was fair, headwind was later tailwind, and the run was hot, but could have been a lot hotter…

Good luck, it is a great event, but you have to be a little more realistic if you want to put a winning team together…

After seeing him at the teva games I don’t think he is good for a 4:30…

I am not sure this challenge will happen this year, but if it does I understand the time will be 7:45. The people who insure this thing learned last year that 8:00 is doable, although not easily. 7:45 is another story.

He was out riding in the area, and some people took off with he was scouting the course. He was just out riding.

Like letsrun.com, they all run 2:10 over there.

Try to find Jan Sibbersen for the swim this guy has numerous record for Ironman swim legs… I think he went something like 42mins in Roth one year, almost every time he went racing Hawaii he was first out of the water… I think living is in the New York area… I know he’s a german.

For the run I think Sergio could run 2h30, after all he did 2h43 in Hawaii… maybe he would be available for $33k!

Sergio is a tremendous multi-sport athlete but for a relay like this, he’d probably be the first tell you to go find an African (Kenya, Ethiopia, Morocco, Tanzania, etc) marathoner. Running 6 min/miles after a bike ride is vastly different from running 5 min/miles “stand alone”. Most triathletes simply don’t have the “running strength” requisite to sustain that kind of leg turnover for 2+ hours.
