Silverman/Frank’s on the ball. AG and bib numbers already up. They’re doing an AWA wave as in Boulder (any other 70.3’s done this this year?). At SIlverman about a 40 minute advantage over the last AG wave, but in the desert that may end up being quite a big difference last 1/2 of the run
I just noticed this too and I’m liking it.

That also means a lot less slip-streaming. As an age-grouper for many years, I would take last wave over first wave any day of the week except in extreme heat with humidity, or in the rare situation where there was some sort of crazy wind pattern that was to be predictable and possibly faster by going early but it would have to be a point to point course and there are very few of those.
As a wave 22er at Oceanside and 20+ at Miami half generally I agree with you but think it may have less of an impact on a hilly course like Silverman? If we have a nice day less of an issue, but if it’s one of those hot October Vegas days I do so poorly in heat like that the :30 minutes might make a bigger difference than I’d get from some legal drafting. Besides I can always slingshot the pros. /pink
I assume that Silverman is still open and it will be no wetsuit. Plus the AWA wave means I get a fairly open road and can just ride my own race…I am liking all of this! Are there any changes from the course they used last year?

This will be my first non wetsuit race, guess I better start training ![]()
Why do you think it will be a non-wetsuit swim at Boulder Beach in October? Pumpkinman is held mid-October and is historically a wetsuit swim under USAT rules.
I think the original Silverman 70.3 website may have referenced non-wetsuit using carryover content from Vegas 70.3 website and LLV swim venue. Current Silverman FAQ lists typical October Lake Mead water temps as 74-79*F.
I’m out of the loop. What is an “AWA” wave?
All World Athlete
WTC’s AG ranking system
.

Jay, you get points for your Ironman races and if you get enough you’re a AWA athlete. Some events are giving special treatment to AWA members, swim waves, fast track packet pick up, early registration for some events, etc
Got it. Thanks. I know about the All World Athlete thing…just didn’t piece together that an “AWA” wave meant “All World Athlete”. Thanks for the clarification guys.

So you in the AWA swim wave?

Just assumed it would still be around 80F in Lake Mead in early Oct, but not being local, that’s probably a bad assumption.
Yeah, it will most likely be wetsuit legal. Not sure whether lake levels will have temperature effects though. As far as the prior course swim is different and hooks up with largely the same bike. Run is the same I believe.
Don’t think so. I’ve only done Tahoe and O’side in the past 12 months.
AWA really more a frequent flyer club thing. I did Oceanside, Canada and Miami in 2013, didn’t win any of them
and somehow got silver.
Lake tempts hovering around 68 degrees…can’t imagine it wouldn’t be wetsuit legal. But watch out for the water scorpions!

Yes, no, sort of.
Only three races count (similar to USAT rankings). Gold is top-1% of your AG, Silver is top-5%, Bronze is top-10%. So a mediocre placing in three races would probably accumulate more points than someone who won their AG at a race but that was the only race they did.

What’s the percentage based on? Can’t be finishing time. I was not top 5%…or top 10% for that matter.
