Silly qualifying question

if I am trying to qualify for Kona, is it the age group you race in that day, or is it your age group the day of the Kona race… I am 49, looking to do a Sept 14 qualifying race for Kona 2015 and wonder if I “age-up” for qualifying?

Your race age is the age you’ll be on 12/31 of the year you are racing in.

Your race age is the age you’ll be on 12/31 of the year you are racing in.

Agreed. In this case, the OP qualifies and races Kona (should he be successful) in since both race ages are for the 50-54 AG.

Now, since you can KQ for 2015 Kona in 2014, those are technically 2 different race ages. If one ages up, do they represent their qualifying AG at Kona or their current AG at Kona? (This is what I think is the heart of the OP’s question).

I’m pretty sure your represent your race day AG, regardless of what AG you qualified in. I could be wrong though.

Yes–if you qualify in one AG and then age-up the next year you race in the older AG the following year in the race you qualified for.

For example–you KQ at IM Arizona 2014 and your age on 12/31/14 is 49–so you qualify in the 45-49 AG. You would race in Kona 2015 in the 50-54 AG.

thank you both… so unlike qualifying for TEAM USA, there is no age-up kiss for qualifying
