Sidi Ergo 2: Numb toes?

My last pair of Sidi was in 2001 (Genius somethin’ or other). Wore them for 6 years.

Now that I’m sporting the new blingin’ Ergo 2, I can’t feel my feet after 15 minutes of hard riding. This is on the road bike (rather than TT).

Anyone else had a similar experience?

PS: I’ve loosened the toe strap to ensure that I’m not clamping too tight, but that only helps marginally.

Thanks!

Sidis tend to run on the narrow side - if you can get a shoe stretcher in there, will probably help (the kind you insert and crank apart). Get them a little wet first

Yep, same here. I have a different problem, my front part of my knee kills me with those shoes. I have 6 pairs of Sidi’s and those are the only pair that jack my knee up

I think you’re 100% correct… my previous pair of Sidi stretched tremendously over the years and it I don’t recall numbness.

Thanks for your input!

you need a wider shoe. Seriously go custom. Sure it’s like buying 2 pair of cycling shoes, but I’ve yet to regret the day i put on my D2 customs. Now I’d never consider stock cycling shoes again.

I also have the Ergo2s (my previous pair was a fiberglass sole and velcro closure Sidi). They are great shoes, but have a very stiff sole and are great for power xfer but unforgiving. If you think they are too small/narrow, try a 30min ride with the insoles removed (you’ll be surprized how much room this adds to the toebox). If that helps, consider getting them stretched a bit at the local cobbler.

Had the same problem when I upgraded from the Sidis with the millenium to the carbon sole on the Energies. The sole is jus so much stiffer. Took about 3 weeks to adjust. The Ergo 2 sole is even stiffer. Depending on how long you’ve been using the new shoes, you may just need some more time.

You could also loosen the twistie (techno-buckle?) in the middle one click, too.
