Today sucks. And it’s probably my own damn fault. Somewhere between Walla Walla and Montana I picked something up. And now I am good and ill: Sore throat, 102 temp. Going to the doc today for the first time in 5 years.
Anyway, I drove all the way to my first Olympic of the year in Walla Walla, exceeded expectations: PR in the swim and of course the run, which was like a 1/2 mile short (sorry to burst any bubbles); Decent bike but I still have far to go.
Then drove home through Missoula, watched the Camper van reunion show (I used to love that band: still do) and home at 3 a.m. Figured resting Monday would cure it but come Wed. a.m. I feel like crap.
And of course, I am planning my biggest miles of the year for this weekend. Anybody got a plan B? I’m bumming. Can’t even visit with my good friends who are in town and who I haven’t seen in a year. They have kids and I don’t want to risk exposing them. Hope I lick this soon. And I can’t access this site on my home computer. And I have to show up at school tomorrow to enter grades. The final bell rang and the seniors are shreiking … Only consolation is the weather is now crap.
Thanks. I just want to be able to ride Sat-Sun-Mon. Maybe not far or fast, but ride. I swam 2,000 and ran 4 mi yesterday and felt OK, but don’t feel like I could do anything right now except sleep.
I got nailed with some sort of stomach flu/virus/food poisoning on Tuesday and have spent the past 2 days holed up in bed, either sweating my bag off or freezing - and waking every hour to run to the can. My stomach is feeling better now, but I’m still pretty bagged and my whole body is sore from spending so much time in bed. It’ll be a few days yet before I even attempt to work out.
Oh, did I mention that my A race for the season is in 2 weeks?
That sucks but you will be fine, well rested and probably lost a few pounds in the process!
Ok seriously, once back on your feet start major recovery strategy with good food, taking it a bit easier and dont over do it to compensate. I have been there.
Thanks bro. The weight loss bit did cross my mind, and SAC actually asked how much I dropped - but to know that I’d have to weigh myself at least semi-regularly, and I don’t own a scale…
I’m not terribly concerned, I was fortunate enough to be able to push back my work travels until Saturday, so I got an extra 3 days to recover before I had to function. Now I’m just waiting for the soreness to dissipate, and for my appetite to return to its normal voracious self. In the meantime, rest can’t possibly be hurting me.
hey I saw the bike today at TriAction. Nice set up. Assume its in for some pre race tune up/ BTW Greg rents race wheels so that might be an option.
Linda’s was in getting a good tune up, ended up having to replace the BB one of those FSA external BB, all the bearing were rusted. Hope this was just a one off.
So what was the chance of having two Yaqui’s, same colour in the same shop in a city with only two Yaqui (that we know of anyway). And neither owner were there at the same time!
When the appetite is back its time to start training!
I feel your pain! I got really sick three weeks ago and my cough was so bad I managed to pull a rib muscle which I’m still dealing with today! Swimming is out of the question which infortunately for me is my weakest event. Seems like virus’ just keep getting worse and worse!! I never get sick but the last few times I have it’s been bad!!
You must have arrived just after I left! I took off at 5 or so… maybe quarter past.
I haven’t heard a lot of good things about those external BB’s, but I do hope Linda’s doesn’t cause any more problems. Funny thing - you’d think Ves would have had a rant about those if there was an issue!
I dropped her off for a pre-race tune up and to get the headtube cut down - no need to carry those spacers around! Also, she wasn’t shifting down off the big ring very well, which doesn’t really bother me in training but would be bad on race day. Stomping up the hill in the big ring just might come back to haunt me sometime during the run…
I didn’t know Greg did rentals - thanks for the tip. I’ll definitely ask him about that when I pick up my bike.
As for the probability question… well… it’s already skewed given that the two owners knew each other prio to becoming Yaqui owners, and also because Greg is the best Tri shop in town. The colour thing is just weird though.
Thanks folks. Sorry some of you were even more sick and the timing was even worse than with me.
I feel a tad better today. The doc gave me a perscription yesterday but I opted not to take antibiotics since they are so expensive (not fully covered) and often don’t work. Slept nearly 10 hours last night, something I do maybe once a month … My fever is down today but I still have a sore throat and I am producing quantities of mucus. Hope to get in a few miles this weekend, though.
