Sick of Cervelo bike pjorn? (pic)

I’ve never posted a bike porn pic. I scored this baby from the Slowtwitch Classifieds (sans the wheels).

First ride this morning was SWWEEEEEEEET. I’ll get to race her tomorrow (bike leg of a local sprint tri relay).

great looking bike!! (i never get sick of cervelo pjorn)

Nice set up Bob! I’m assuming an 808 and 575 clincher with latex tubes, Vittoria Corsa CX? I know you don’t give up too many secs in your TTs. Zero G brakes even!

Correct on the wheel/tire assumptions, right down to the tubes. Now, what’s this business about giving up some seconds!!!

nice biek Bob. Don’t you find that the yellow swisstops are a bit too grabby for aluminium rims?

Funny you should ask. Funny because the bike was advertised as only having 75 miles on it. The brake calipers themselves look fairly new, but the pads are seriously worn (hmmmmmm) and don’t seem grabby at all. In fact, I’d say just the opposite. I have a set of the yellow pads on the ZGs I use on my road bike and I’ve not found them to be grabby.

Wow. Perfect parts spec. Nice cockpit. Well done my friend.

If I recall you were riding 650’s for a while. How do like the 700’s? Do you notice much difference? How tall are you?

Tom,

Thanks! Hearing that from you, I almost don’t care now if it’s fast or not! Well … yes I do. Regardless, I’m going to have to consider making that quote from you my new sig line!

Now with a good Zipp disc in the back, the bike would be perfect. Nice setup!

Nice Bob! Good luck tomorrow.

Nice set-up. Not a real fan of the zero-g’s on a tri bike, as they just look as un-aero as a caliper could be.

ps. Given the time of year, I’d think you’d be picking up some new CX porn. You’re going to be really limited in CX tire choice on the P3.

ok that’s a pretty sweet rig. now that you’ve gone over to the dark side (700c) is there any chance that you’re going to keep 2 diff size race wheels? or stated another way, how long until you unload that old, obsolete, inferior frame material, slower, kiddie-wheel sized alu P3? inquiring minds want to know

congrats on the new rig. wheel size aside, can you feel any difference in the ride between the carbon and the aluminum? i’m assuming your cockpit is similar if not the same as your old bike.

gorgeous bike… what are your first impressions of the Easton bars? i’m on the fence…

Some replies:

I’ve only got 26 miles on it. Can’t judge much about it yet. Most of those miles were on a new stretch of highway that’s as yet unopened and has pristine new asphalt. It sure rode nice on there. There were a few bumps in the roads leading to the new highway and 700s roll over them without as much jarring.

I’m 5’ 6" and that’s a 51cm. I was pretty pleased at how closely I was able to match up the “points in space” between this 700c bike and the 650c I’ve been used to. And I only end up about 1/2 inch higher off the ground. I’m not sure how that worked.

When I bought the bike, I told the seller I wasn’t too keen on the ZG brakes and I’d probably take them off. I’ve got a set on my road bike and never liked them much. I didn’t figure they’d be too aero on the TT/tri bike. But when I looked at them on the bike, I think they may actually present a slightly smaller profile to the wind than a set of DA brakes. I’m gonna be on the lookout for something different, but I think they’ll be OK for now. They help contribute to a surprisingly light bike. Haven’t weighed it, but it sure is lighter than the old bike.

As for the Easton Attack TT bars, I loved them for 26 miles. But those arm pads are tiny and I’ll be interested to see how much I love them when I do 56 at the end of next month. I think I’m going to love the straight brake extensions (vs. the curved up VT ones) once I get used to them. A couple of times today I got out of the saddle for a hill and almost missed the cowhorn and dumped it.

Someone said I need to get a Zipp disk for the rear. That won’t happen anytime soon. You don’t end up with a bike like this if you’re too hung up about cost/benefit analysis. But at $1,600 for a Zipp clincher disk vs. under $600 for a Renn … thanks, but I’ll keep the grand and put it towards a power meter (which I’m sure I should have gotten before I got this bike, but it didn’t seem as fun). BTW, here’s a shout out to Frank at Renn Multisport for expediting my wheel so I’d have it in time for a little 3-race stretch (over 8 days) that commences with the one tomorrow. I use a Renn on my other bike. I don’t feel it’s a compromise at all. I bought a Zipp disk for the 650 bike and sold it in short order. I saw no benefit and wanted to get my money back out of it.

I guess if the new bike’s not real fast when I race it tomorrow, I won’t know if it’s the bike or if it’s me 'cuz I stayed up too late typing on Slowtwitch when I should have been sleeping.

I’m sure I’ll be selling some stuff eventually. Gotta see how everything works out, first.

Check out my post on the Easton Attack TT modifications that I did. You might like this better.

Nice bike. Those bars are very nice.
Check these pads out. My fit guy recommended them and they work really well.

So, how was your bike split for the relay? Gotta get you in the water some day though

How frustrating. There was another relay team from the big Tri store in Greenville. I don’t know exactly what racing cat. the bike guy is, but I know he races with the Pro,1,2 group at the time trials I attend. I’m told he left the transition less than 10 seconds behind me. He passed me about 5 miles into the ride. I passed him back a few miles later. He passed me again. I never passed him again, but I was closing at the end. He was maybe 10 bike lengths ahead of me when we turned into the YMCA. Our times couldn’t have been but 15 seconds apart. I was pretty pumped about that (given I’m probably 20 years older than him and have never really raced anything but time trials starting 2 years ago). Anyway … the dude blows right through the dismount area and rides right into transition and up to his rack. No officials on the scene to see it – not that it mattered. His runner was a real ringer.

Here’s the frustrating part … timing screw up. No bike splits. AAAAaaaarrrrggggghhhhh! I enjoyed doing it for the sake of doing it, but I really wanted that bike split. My best estimate based on my computer was 35:25 for what was claimed to be a 15 mile course. I actually think it was closer to 14.5 miles. It was a bit of a technical course. Definately not a typical TT venue. I’d driven it, but not ridden it.

I liked the new bike. Not as good on the uphills, but seemed better everywhere else.

As for gettin’ me in the pool, the nearest one to me is 30 miles away. Were it not for that, I’d already have done it.

Are you doing Luavul?

Nice bike Bob, but sorry about your experience in T2 and the timing flop.
