Sick and tired of those "I didnt really train hard" comments

Fess up…how many of you downplay your training to others. A local guy who beat me by under a minute at this weeks big tri says to the local newspaper " I havent trained or raced much this year so considering I did all right"…BULLSHIT. His times were as fast as ever and to top it all off I trained my butt off and still got beat by him. I am smiling as I right this so no flames ok. Just a little steam to vent though.

Maybe some people get their decimal points mixed up when they speak about their training. Last week I got in 1.95 hours of training … oops I meant 19.5

Some people just have it. Sometimes I do better in races if I train less b/c my body is less stressed from the training and my mental game is sharper.

it’s like those kids in school that always said–“oh i didn’t study at all, i’m totally going to flunk this exam. I’m so scared!” then, when they get the exam back they say, “What did you get!?!”. “An 88, you?” “A 99!!!”

gag.

It’s usually the opposite for me. I tend to round the numbers up a bit so my weekly volume looks a little better than it actually is. Psychologically this makes me think I’m better prepared than I actually am.

Those comments are right up there with “I’m so fat.”
.

Is that worse than the guy you just beat in a race who starts telling you that he did some big work outs a couple of days ago and was not fully rested for the race? blah, blah, blah…

Seems like the best answer when someone says nice race is to just reply :" thank you"

oh this is my favorite one, espcially when i weigh at least 20 pounds more than the person saying it. LOL!!! i’ve learned that no one wants to hear “i’m fat”. it’s a real downer.

My favorite is when it comes from some skinny-ass 22 year old with her fake tan and fake boobs and my thigh is as big as her waist!

the ones that eat most of their salad and then start making hog-snort sounds in mockery of themselves (you know, because they’ve just eaten SO MUCH FOOD.).

gag.

I’m good friends with a former collegiate swimmer who’s been racing (at the top of his AG) tris since 1983. He has such an obscenely large base that he makes comments like that frequently after he wins or places in his AG. Some people just “got it”.

I take solice in the fact that they get winded walking up stairs and I could knock any of them out with one good smack. (sorry, I’m pissy today. hijacking rant over).

Slow, violent, and bitter.

Slow, violent, and bitter.

All in all, a great person! Maybe I’ll stay off ST today…

BTW: who you callin’ slow?!

Just try and refrain from hitting me if I beat you in a race.

I’ll try. Just don’t turn around and ask me if you are fat.

OK. Deal.

Sounds like he is trying to psych you out!

My wife has a friend who is rail thin despite having a child a year ago and frequently USED to say “I’m so fat” all the time and I would have to listen to my wife vent afterwards.

One day she said it to me and I replied:

“Well, if you eat less or workout more then you’ll be able to drop a few pounds. What did you eat so far today?”

Probably drove her to anorexia or bulimia if she wasn’t already there, but at least we don’t have to hear about it any more.

That’s brilliant.
