Anyone who has taped up the underside of their aero helmet, rock out a photo and inspire me to do the same!

Why would it make one slower?
Look at the Rudy Project Wingspan (which I believe was designed in part by John Cobb) which has a removable section on the underside of the tail specifically to make it more aero! the only reason it is removable is to increase ventilation in hot conditions.

The underside of the TT2 comes with a fairing, just like the Wingspan.
The tape or caulk job is usually b/c they can be flimsy or fall out.
But the very point that they come with back covers could well attest to your desire to tape it up on yours.

tapering may make it slower, but I think general consensus (I’m lacking a specific reference to data) is that taping it, will make it more aero

aerodynamics isnt a popularity contest. by all means tape the underside. all the vents are closed on my rudy project wingspan, but i left the tail uncovered.

hed be a lot better off closing the front vent and rear vents before taping the underside.

yes, unless youve attached a visor then you can close off the tail.
