I have recently moved up to training for olympic distance swims. So, most of my swims are no less than .5mile. I am looking for advice for my left shoulder pain during the swim. I have just recently bought the TI video and hope I can correct something. I am having pain in the side/rear, more side of my left shoulder when I swim. I have begun to put my head down and look at the line while moving my hips, etc. I am bilateral breathing, etc. However, I think the problem may be in the catch and pull. I am trying to rotate my shoulders more also. Could it be the way my hand is entering the water? Not always doing Thumbs down with my hands? Could it be…while keeping my elbows higher than my hands… I am pulling too far from my body or what??? I am really looking for some advice on alleviating this pain while I am beginning to swim .9 to 2 mile swims preparing for half irons, etc. When I get up to about half a mile sometimes it stops hurting or either I am experiencing endorphin induced analgesia. Can some people that have had common problems offer advice on getting rid of that side shoulder pain? It causes the most pain when I extend all the way and begin to catch and pull! Thanks
I’m the absolute worst person to be giving advice on swimming, but I’ve heard that shoulder pain sometimes comes from crossing over with your hand (across the center of your body) as it enters the water. Maybe you’re doing that?

Could be anything. Get your stroke looked at by a pro instructor, and if pain persists, see an orthopedist that specializes in shoulders.
I’ve had lots of small troubles w/ my shoulders, but I don’t think that info would do you any good.
Thanks…I heard that crossing over causes trouble as well… I will have to check that out!
