Hello all, here is the short version; No surgery (yahoo!) but the surgeon gave me two options for treatment.
Needle (lavage) in the shoulder to draw out the calcium
Shock wave therapy
I asked the surgeon for his expert opinion…since I figured he has seen it all… and this was his answer “I don’t care. I don’t do either, I’m a surgeon. Pick one”
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I miss swimming and getting old sucks!
First, I have had something similar and know you can rehab from it. But haven’t you googled needle lavage in the shoulder? There are cogent explanations on the first tier of hits. Your surgeon is lame for his flippancy and defaulting you to a list like this for your medical advice. Get the treatment and pursue rehab along the lines of improved strength and range of motion. Avoid aggravating activities until the inflammatory process is quelled.
Best of luck - I am sure you can overcome it.
