Shoulder Blade Pain

Last night towards the end of my run I began getting a sharp pain in my shoulder blade. Only my left one, anyone ever experience this? The only way it would stop is if I ran with my arm down by my side.

Where exactly in the shoulder blade? Common causes are muscle pulls from the rhomboid muscles or referred neurological pain from the neck or rib/thoracic spinal joints.

Seems like it starts towards the middle of my back then the pain shoots to left and takes up the whole shoulder blade area. It lasts only a few seconds but some of the pains are so bad they could bring tears. I have the sprit of racine this weekend and dont know what to do now. Not sure if the high humidty we have been having has anything to do with it. Also I’ve had no pain while swimming.

not sure if we have the same issue - but I have experienced this - I got a deep tissue massage and they masseged in under my blade and there was a huge knot there they massaged out - have to have it done everyone once in a while.

hope it helps.

Can’t really diagnose over the net, but sounds like it could be an intercostal neuralgia. This is where the nerve at the rib/spinal joint is irritated. Could also have involvement of the lower neck.

A chiropractor can often help you with this.

could also be a pinched nerve in your neck. Common symptom is pain in the shoulder blade. Other symptoms are numb fingers…

yep… go see a good chiro.

speaking from experience, the sooner you get it looked at, the better off you will be. if you let it linger, surrounding muscles will start to knot up and then you start a chain reaction of muscles knotting up, pinching other nerves, causing other muscles to knot, etc.
