Shoulder and trap soreness during running

I have been running many years and doing road races and triahtlons. Not too long ago I did a marathon and my shoulders and traps got very tight and that transferred to breathing difficulties. I tried my usual run training after that and had the same problems. Never happened in all my years before.

I went to my doc and then to some specialits. I had EKG’s, echo cardiograhams, Cat Skans, complete blood work, stress tests, pulminary function tests, you name it. I was ok with everything.

Lately I have been running with no real issues; I ran today and damn if it did not happen again;; about 5 miles into a 10 mile run I got so tight it hurt and I had to run walk and then just walk the remainding 2 miles.

Lately I have taken on yoga and meditation for relaxationa and when I run I specifically think about relaxing my shoulders so I don’t tense up, but it still happened. It is so tight and then my breathing becomes very labored.

Not sure if anyone has heard of this. I don’t know where else to turn for advice.

thanks

CW

You forgot to mention you got beat by a woman on this morning’s run.

Yes bottom feeder but she was a gazelle and fun to watch!

Read “THE TRIGGER POINT THERAPY WORKBOOK, Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief” by Clair Davies. There is a good chance that you will find a solution to your problem in this book.

Best wishes,

Sergio

Claude,
I think you’ll be OK, just try to focus on something other than the moment. You’re just tightening up dude.
There’s drugs that can help, I’m sure of that.
See ya soon,
Spencer

Thanks for the tip Sergio

Hey Slowtwitchia, I just wanted to bump this thread and give my good friend CW one more chance to discuss his condition.

He’s a good runner, and it would be a shame if he never solves this mystery which keeps him back and may even threaten his health.

Thanks.
