Should we eliminate Congress?

So on Saturday I go to my congressmans town-hall meeting. Even in the SF Bay Area, a large amount of the people were upset over the “Stimulus” package, and now the proposed budget. He gives the typical democrat response on how the Republicans screwed everything up over the last 8 years. He takes another question from me. And I ask him if he remembers that he was elected in 2006 and the Democrats took control, how exactly is this all the Republicans fault? His response “Well the President really controls everything.” He then stopped the meeting 45 minutes early. What a tool.

Then on the Sunday talk shows all I hear is but for the past 8 years…

So couldn’t we eliminate Congress and save a Billions?

I kind of hope things get much worse so people will actually get smart and get these clowns out.

if we would go back to sound money we wouldn’t have all those problems.

Eliminate them and replace them with what? What’s your solution?

Oddly, approval ratings of Congress have jumped quite a bit the past couple months.

In a funny (if expensive, 28 Bil or so) related story, did you see the spending bill that Obama just signed for the remainder of the 09 budget? The funny part was Reid saying that congress WAS doing their job by adding a bunch of earmarks to it. Obama has to sign it anyway. The bonus good news is that anything they add to the 09 budget, they can then say was from GWB!

On a related note I read something recently about earmarks at least being a way of tracking who is lobbying for, and getting, the pork. This as opposed to the “stimulus” plan that just gave varying sized pots of money to the different departments (where the fighting will now take place), thus allowing the claim “no earmarks!”. What washington does not understand is that the complainers about earmarks were looking for an alternative where that money was not spent, not just called something different.

of course the approval ratings are going up. whats not to like? All these handouts paid for by the top 2% - I am actually surprised they are not even higher. Everyday is Christmas and Reid, Pelosi and Obama are in Santa suits.

Was this written in English? Are you talking about the omnibus?

Perhaps the people are finally getting what they want? My .02 says a majority of people want universal health care. They want tax cuts, out of Iraq and the rich to pay more … They voted for people that promised “X” and those people won the election. Why shouldn’t they get what they want? Perhaps Congress is finally listening to the people and that’s why it’s ratings are improving.

Made a couple of changes for my typos, let me know if you still don’t get it.

If they continue to claim the president is all powerfull, just eliminate them and replace them with savings.

For the past 5 years all we’ve heard from the Democrats is they had no power. Even when they controlled Congress.

It’s the Republicans fault for Iraq. Even though a majority of Democrats voted for it.
But they were lied to. It was 5 months from the authorization of use of force to the first shot, and no investigation or hearings were called, yet how long did they drag out Bush firing the AJ’s?
3 years in a row with the largest Budgets ever, yet it’s the Republicans fault.

Replacing Congress is not a viable option. We have survived for 200+ years because of our system.

Bingo!

"We have survived for 200+ years because of our system. "

It wasn’t because of the way we do things these days (and the past 30+ years) that the US became such a dominant world power and wealthy Nation. The further we drift away from the Constitution (sound money, sovereignty, etc.) the sooner will come the day when the US will no longer exist in its current form. Just my thoughts on this. We didn’t become the great world power because we ran a socialistic system with budget deficits and fiat money.

I wish we could, but we live in a democracy which by it’s nature requires some type of “representation”.

Unfortunately, we will always have one party blaming the other for the problems, or taking credit when things go well.
Many of these idiots on both sides of the aisle have been in Congress for decades and most of them suck. We need term limits in Congress, which would be a good start to cleaning up Washington.

Here’s my take on Congress. Worthless bunch of millionaire lawyers. What have these guys/gals done for the last 30 years? We still have the same problems year after year regardless which party is in control of Congress and the President. I cannot think of one major problem that they have fixed in the last 30 years.

Each party loves to blame the other party for the woes of the country. Hey Democrats…HTFU and fix the problems instead of blaming the Republicans. Yes, the Republicans made mistakes and every American already knows that based on the daily blame game from Nancy, Harry, Obama. Don’t worry liberals…the Republicans do the same thing…that is blame the Democrats for everything instead of fixing the problem.

Also, if you are not a millionaire there is no way you could run for Congress or the President because of the money required to campaign.

I think the real terrorist against this country is Congress.

I have wondered why Congress insist on fighting the terrorist overseas. We could save a lot of money by keeping our troops home instead of deployed all over the world. Yes, we could lose more property and civilians lives if the terrorist decide to fight us on our own soil. However, it would show how vulnerable our borders are and how incompetent HomeLand Security is.

Just remember this the next time you get on an airplane and have to go through security that your government thinks you are the terrorist. Because you get scanned and searched. I will never forget right after 9/11 going through Hartsfield seeing 5 TSA agents searching a man in his late 90’s in a wheelchair for over 25 minutes. Thank you Congress for creating HomeLand security that is so efficient. If I recall it was 19 Saudi Arabians who flew the planes into the towers not some 90 year old man in a wheelchair.

Also, If we were to fight the terrorist on our own soil; the gun laws would have to change which would really freak out the liberals.

Here’s my last rant against Congress. Does anybody have to follow SOX at work? This is another brilliant idea from Congress. Sarbanes-Oxley is an agency created to police auditors of public companies so that we would not ever have another Enron. I have to use SOX everyday and it basically creates a paper trail larger than the cost of Obama’s Stimulus Package. It is a financial drain on any public traded company. Hey Congress, guess it didn’t catch any of the accounting fraud in Fannie Mae, Fredie Mac, Merrill Lynch and no telling how many more.

I could go on and on about all the great, wonderful, efficient, cost effective legislation that Congress has pulled out of their ass but I have wasted enough of my time. Time to go for a swim.

yes we should eliminate Congress and go straight to a monarchy. yeah, lets have a King. King Obama! He would look cute in a big red cape and a gold crown. The country would still be going bankrupt but as Mel used to say… “Its good to be the King!”

The US is always in transition, just look at the early divisions in US politics. I don’t see the fact that we are always changing a problem as long as we still are a Republic governed by laws that are equally enforced.

Monkeys with typewriters as suggested by a New York Post cartoonist suggested a couple weeks ago. If The infinite monkey theorem states that a monkey hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a given text, such as the complete works of William Shakespeare. If the theory holds true, then surely they could come up with some laws that make sense, plus all we’d have to pay them in is bananas.

that gets my vote
.

Although I don’t use SOX in my everyday life, I actually wrote my law school thesis paper on SOX shortly after its enactment and argued that its requirements imposed too much of an administrative burden on small to medium sized companies. Sadly, I am pleased to see there was something to my theory.

As to Congress… I can only invoke the brilliant scene in Mars Attacks.
