Yes. Most are ultimately better off than they were before, whether it be here in the US or in Africa.
Yes, but overall it has helped the total world become more “wealthyâ€
No. Inequality is always going to exist. My parents are hardcore socialists but I truly believe that capitalism is the answer…with a dose of recognizing that some do need help
Yes. Because most are ultimately improving their standard of living.
That is awesome
Two posts.
Could not be further apart.
Do you think that the economy works for everyone
In aggregate sense, yes. Individual by individual analysis, no.
**Do you think globalisation has harmed segments of society **
Yes
Do you think inequality is an issue that needs to be addressed - not how
At a certain level inequality can be destabilizing and potentially dangerous, and thus can reach a level where it needs to be addressed. As a concept, inequality is not something that needs to be stamped out (don’t think it could be) or subject to constant efforts to whittle it down.
Is the current trend of increasing inequality sustainable
Globally? In the US? Somewhere else? I don’t think we’re on the brink of violent revolution, but if the trend continues long enough I could see it becoming an issue so serious and destabilizing that it isn’t sustainable.
Do you think that the economy works for everyone - The Economy works for those who work, not so much for those who choose or are unable to work. Socialist programs try to resolve that and take from those who work to give it to those who do not work, but in effect they ensure that those who do not work have no motivation to work and make the economy work for them.
Do you think globalisation has harmed segments of society - Globalization inevitable with transportation costs becoming less and less of a factor. When a product can be purchased at a lower total cost (price plus transportation) than to purchase the same product from across town (price plus transportation), then that is what the market will move to.
Do you think inequality is an issue that needs to be addressed - not how - Inequality in ability or in outcome? It is a very nuanced and complicated topic. One that the politicians have no intention in resolving. So long as the can use inequality, real or imagined, as a tool to gain supporters, then it will never be addressed in a positive manner.
Is the current trend of increasing inequality sustainable - no, the idea that we can tax workers pay to pay for non workers will eventually collapse under its own weight. All the new “migrants” will probably not add to the tax rolls quickly or in meaningful numbers, and many, many of them will be in the non-worker side, so that pushes us even close to the tipping point where the whole system collapses.
really? You think it works for all people that work?
I give you tariffs and quotas… Industries essential to national security have them
X2. I agree with every one of your answers.

Give me an example of an economy that works for everyone. Not sure I understand what you mean.
No. It could work better for many but they lack the knowledge to know how to make this happen. It works well for the astute / wealthy which then perpetuates the inequality - the reason I say it doesn’t work for everyone.
Yes. Online shopping has killed off a lot of small businesses. Where once there was a hive of activity on local city centres there are now For Lease signs everywhere. Smart phones and the internet (a byproduct of gloabilisation) has harmed social interaction, isolated many and brought personal attacks into the home.
Yes. Though I agree with the above that there will always be individuals who for a variety of reasons cannot be helped, families/individuals that work hard should not view owning the roof over their head as fantasy (which appears to be an ever increasing sentiment). Residential property is where I see inequality the most. It should be exponentially harder for the wealthy to keep on acquiring at the expense of those that just want one to call home.
No. It leads some amongst the have nots to turn to crime / violence / broader conflict. So I’d expect increases there. The haves often spoil themselves with material items they do not need. This is not good for the environment from which the raw materials / energy used to make them are extracted.

These questions are biased against the status quo. Consider the following analogous set of questions…
1.) Does the LR work for everyone?
2.) Do you think the LR has mistreated some users?
3.) Do you think unfairness in the LR is an issue that needs to be addressed – not how
4.) Is the current trend of increasing unfairness in the LR sustainable.
I’d imagine Slowman would be like “Say what?!?!?”

i also think globalization is ultimately inevitable and needs to be managed not resisted.

No intention of being obtuse. I hear this thrown around but not sure exactly what it means.
I hear “work for everyone” and I think:
The answer to all of these is NO and there is no way to make all of them YES.
X2. I agree with every one of your answers.

No, it definitely does not work for everyone. Not even close, if you are thinking globally.
Yes. Rust belt USA, forestry industry in my area, mining/resource extraction in Africa, etc. Examples abound. People are making money, but, someone, somewhere is getting royally screwed.
To a degree, yes. I think civilized Western Nations should provide high level healthcare and public education, so, at least the basics are covered. Educated and healthy populace isn’t a bad thing. Welfare, etc I’m less keen on as abuse is rampant and it helps very few in the way it was intended.
On what timeline? In what location? But, in general, it will be sustainable until it isn’t.

Ditto. Multiple choice in LR takes way too much thought.
