Dev asks: “Can informal ‘training events’ or training camps like the Palomar Hillclimb, Epicman, Virtual Camps etc be added to the calendar or are you looking for formal ‘paid events’ only?”
what say you all?

As long as it’s plain which it is, I have no problem with casual events being on the calendar.
Off the top of my head, I would just focus on anything that USAT would show on their calendar.
But, if it becomes more than just races, it could get too cluttered, IMO.
So, I would offer no “informal” events for your calendar.

My $ 0.02. The name says it all. If it is a race, then it belongs to the Race Calendar. It is not, then it does not belong there, but might belong to another, separate, calendar such as a Training Events Calendar.

Maybe I’m missing something, but if it’s only races that are on the USAT calendar why not just use that and forget about the slowtwitch one?
I’d like to see things like training camps or even more informal slowtwitch events on the calendar. If I’m going down to LP to train, it might be nice to be able to check if other are as well.
Yeah, but there’s lots of races that are not USAT certified out there that should be on there. If someone were only looking for those events, he/she could simply go to their calendar.
Lots of races are not USAT.
Plus, if we can see who else is racing, those kind of things are not in USAT web.

The more events the merrier, IMHO. But I would leave the “virtual” camps to the main forum.
I say yes. One of the best things going out there are the informal training events and races. Perhaps you could add a field to the data for whether it’s a race or training event. Then, people can filter out non-races if they wish. I would say anything that has a formal structure to it (ie. specific date, time, location, organizer, etc) then it should be added.
Add me as another one for yes, anything that is structured. The more to choose from the better.

I agree with Dawn.
I’m guessing it won’t be that big of a number of those kind of events. Call it “formal informal”–epicman, gals weekend, palomar hill climb, etc. are pretty discrete events (and events, not training sessions).

another +1 with Dawn

Me too…the training events are sometimes better than the races.
i say yes - would be great to be able to, for example, “search for all training camp options for Ironman Lake Placid” and such.
I vote yes.

Is everyone invited? If so then yes, if not, then no.
Absolutely yes to training camps and training races. Some of the best things in this sport are not for profit and not sanctioned.

Yes. More racing options is better.

If you pin a number on, include it. If not, make a post in the main forum, bump it as much as you want, but it’s not a race.
Another question, will/can this calender only include triathlons/multisport events or will running races, bike races, open water swims be included.
“will/can this calender only include triathlons/multisport events or will running races, bike races, open water swims be included.”
we’re starting just multisport, just north america. then i’d like to tentatively consider the possibility of multisport events in other countries. then, maybe single sport events. but first, multisport in the U.S., canada, and i’d then like to add mexico.
