i have 2300 miles on the new p3 dura ace bike…sram?? or wait??
You should have plenty more miles on your chain/casette. Just keep in mind that if you change the chain you will likely need to change the cassette as well.
You will definitely want to have a fresh set of tires.
You don’t have to buy a new cassette every time you change a chain if you keep your chain clean and replace it regularly.
I replace chains every 2.5-3K miles. I have almost 10K miles on my most-used Dura Ace cassette and it is still fine.
Personally, I would replace it, a cleaned up drivetrain with a new chain always feels smoother to me, a nice ‘psych’ touch for the race, and you’ll be helping to ensure a long life for your cassette.
If you do, don’t do it just before the race, you’ll want to get in a few rides to make sure that the cassette is okeydokey with the chain.
(My set’s at 6000k and I’m replacing both parts this week, I’ll keep the cassette tho, as I’m changing up the gearing with the new cassette - this way I could pop on the old one for a ride or two to see the difference.)
Which ever chain you get be sure to get a quick disconnect link for it. I just put a new DA chain on my tri bike and re-used the SRAM link…worked perfectly and much easier to clean when you can remove it.
