I’m a beginner triathlete competing in a sprint triathlon in 2 weeks. I noticed the clyesdale option on the entry form, and I’m not sure how that works. Is it a separate start or just a group designation on the results page? I am 6’3 and right around 200-205lbs. I was hoping for some input on this. Thanks
I did a sprint at the end of last summer as a Clyde. I was about 210 at the time, now about 195.
They started the Clydes with one of the smaller AG waves. If it were bigger, I think Clydes often get their own wave. As a clyde you are not eligible for AG prizes and you are grouped with other clydes for the finishing stats, not with your AG.
For me, it does not matter because I am never getting to the podium anyway. I usually race AG with the goal of hitting the top half. I did top third in the clydes group overall in that race.
The clydes were having a good old time together at the race I did. A fun bunch.
If you go with the Clydes then be warned - if you go too slow one of those mothers will eat you.
If you ar under 40 the Clydes look good, unless they have old Clydes. I do better in my age group 50+, than racing against 25yo 201 lb 6’5" monsters. G
Hey, i resent that as a 6’5" 202lb man myself. We are good racers, but we will eat you if you don’t as fast as we would like, just kidding! I don’t think that racing in the clyesdale is as competitive as your own age group, to be honest I would rather finish in dead last in my age group, which thankfully hasn’t come close to happening yet, then finish first in the clyesdale. I don’t think that there is any honor in taking advatage of your weight. Go up against the big boys and join me in winning the age group race in the clyesdale weight class!!!
