Should I not be riding this seatpost?

Saber aero carbon seatpost, just doing some adjustments and there is a dent, or sort of a crimp, along the line where the two sides of the collar meet. Can feel it and see it, not close to smooth. I have no idea when it happened but certainly looks like its from overtightening… is this just an accident waiting to happen?

Been looking online and don’t see any way to get a replacement other than from Litespeed.

Get a new one. The consequences of failure might not be pretty and there is a definite chance of failure at some point.

Pretty much, and you’d fee really stupid for trying to save a few bucks when you’re laying in the ER waiting for the nurse to pull gravel out of you after your seatpost broke when you hit a pothole going 25mph.

Do you have any room to lower it so the damaged portion is unstressed below the collar? Hard to say if the damage is worrisome without seeing it. I guess I would say that damage to the clear coat is not usually a problem, damage to the fiber itself (cracking, splintering, fraying) usually is.

Here’s pretty much a good rule.

If you feel like asking the peoples of Slowtwitch if a part/frame/tire/etc. that appears to be damaged is safe to ride, 99.52% of the time it is unsafe.

Go ahead and order another post.

Please, please do not take this to mean a repair or substitute, and honestly I really don’t know if it will do any good, BUT. You might shoot some foam into the post if it is your only option until your new one arrives. Don’t use too much or see if you can find the low expansion type because the pressure could be enough to trash a compromised post, it’s unbelievable what kind of damage expanding foam can do.

QR posts are the same. See if any dealer sells a QR or Litespeed aero post.

But yes, replace.

Yeah, probably a good rule. No problem ordering another one, just hate to miss out a long weekend of riding over this. Oh well…

Not worth it to me to jimmy together a fix that may or may not work.

Thanks

Chris
