Should I join USAT?

I have been reading all of the posts by Dan and Lew re: the current “status” of USAT and I have to be honest, I’m not sure I want to join. First off, last year was my first year doing triathlons and I really enjoyed them. This year I have already signed up for 4, 3 of which are USAT sponsored so from a finanicial standpoint, it would have been in my best interest to join. I have always been a big proponent in joining clubs/organizations that support my activities (I belong to several snowmobile clubs etc.) so I’m very torn by what to do. I want my money to go towards an organization that I can be proud of and I’m not sure that USAT is that kind of organization. Not wanting to start anything major, just looking for reassurance that I should join, the pros and cons of joining etc. Thanks for feedback. A confused tri newbee.

Since it’s in YOUR best interest financially to join, then join.

Plus, as an annual member, you will also (hopfully) get to vote to fix things.

Yes–if you are doing three or more sanctioned races per year, why not? It’s one less piece of administrivia you have to deal with at packet pickup (fillin’ out that damn form).

Well, whether you pay $9 per race or pay the annual membership your money’s going to USAT regardless so you might as well save yourself a little money and join.
