So I see this commercial for 2 egg mcmuffins for $3 and I say to myself, “self, that sounds good for breakfast tomorrow”. So I go on the McDonald’s website and see they only have 300 calories each and fat at 12g each is reasonable. Bingo. Then I get to the line for cholesterol and it says one of these things has 87% of my daily cholesterol intake. WTF? One lousy 300 calorie sandwich with only 12g of fat has 87%? If I eat both, that will be 174%!!
The question is: should I care?
I got my cholesterol tested once a few years ago and it was below the scale on the numbers you don’t want to be high and above the scale on the numbers you want to be high. But I was only 23 or 24 then, so maybe it gets worse as you get older automatically? Does this crap build up even if you exercise an excessive amount? Do I need to think about this at all?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Depends on whether you happen to be one of the rare people whose blood cholesterol levels are manipulated by dietary cholesterol intake.
Well, judging from my 3 year old cholestorol test result, I would say I’m not one of those people. Thanks for the helpful response.
Oh, I love saying this and here it goes. It’s a common misconception but dietary fat does not equate to body fat and dietary cholesterol does not equate to blood cholesterol. The biggest cause for a high blood cholesterol level is from genetics and a high intake of saturated fats. Cholesterol in the food that you has very little impact for raising or lowering your blood cholesterol levels.
Just to be clear, I’m NOT a doctor. It’s probably still a good idea to get tested regularly, though.
I see now that there is some significant probability that you were NOT being facetious in your original post. If that is the case, I apologize for my rude response (it probably wasn’t even clear that I was trying to lay the sarcasm on pretty thickly, but I was).

Yeah, what he said.
Expanding it a bit more, get tested every year or two. If everything is within the normal levels, don’t worry about it. If you don’t have a genetic predisposition for high cholesterol, in general, if you eat right, exercise, and limit the fatty meals to a rare occasion, your cholesterol levels should be fine.
A study my doc shared with me a couple of years ago showed that over half of all strokes and heart attacks happen in people that don’t have high cholesterol.
That tells me that cholesterol isn’t the precursor that all of the pharma companies - who make BILLIONS of $ selling cholesterol lowering medications - would like the general public to believe.
SWEET!
I know what I’m having for breakfast tomorrow.
Good taste in breakfast sandwiches. I am also a fan of the EdMcMuffin.
I would say. "Self, I am enjoying this tasty morsel immensely. I notice it is a high fat, high cholesterol taste treat but I have checked my levels and am aware that I have reasonable levels. ( I would then silently thank my parents for their contribution in said matter). Then I might add “self, as much as I enjoy this I will probably refrain from eating 2 daily or even regularly and maybe enjoy it as an occasional indulgence in my otherwise healthy diet”.
And then I would sleep well at night.

Health concerns aside, how can you choke down those dry sawdust tasting so-called ‘english muffins’ they use?
If you eat one every day that would be bad. Once a week, not an issue.
