So I’m listening to some Led Zep the other day and I just happen to be listening to the lyrics and not just enjoying the tune.
“Ramble On” actually refers to Mordor and Gollum.
How did I not notice this before? How geeky am I that I noticed it now?

Yeah some werid stuff, listen to “tampled under foot” took me a long time to understand that one.

Plant and Page were into Tolkien and that whole world he’d portrayed in The Hobbit and the The Lord of the Rings. If you look at the original album art from the 4th album (ZOSO), you’ll see a representation of Gandalf or somebody meant to resemble the race from which Gandalf sprang. Nothing to be ashamed of.
There’s a song on that 4th album called “Misty Mountain Hop.” What’s the name of the mountains the Fellowship of the Ring needed to cross over at one point?

“Trampled Underfoot”
Greased and slicked down fine, groovy leather trim
I like the way you hold the road, mama, it ain’t no sin
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Trouble-free transmission, helps your oil’s flow
Mama, let me pump your gas, mama, let me do it all
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Dig that heavy metal underneath your hood
Baby, I could work all night, believe I’ve got the perfect tools
Talkin’ 'bout love **
A model built for comfort, really built with style
Specialist tradition, mama, let me feast my eyes
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Factory air-conditioned, heat begins to rise
Guaranteed to run for hours, mama it’s a perfect size
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Groovin’ on the freeway, gauge is on the red
Gun down on my gasoline, I believe I’m gonna crack a head.
Talkin’ ‘bout love **
I can’t stop talkin’ about…
Come to me for service every hundred miles
Baby, let me check your points, fix your overdrive
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Fully automatic, comes in any size
Makes me wonder what I did, before we synchronized
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Feather-light suspension, Koni’s couldn’t hold
I’m so glad I took a look inside your showroom doors
Talkin’ 'bout love **
Oh, I can’t stop talkin’ about love.
Sooo…you’re saying you didn’t know he was talking about love?
A little bit of both.
If you play Ramble On backwards, and sync it with the beginning of the Wizard of Oz, you’ll hear John Lennon say “I buried Paul”.
**Sooo…you’re saying you didn’t know he was talking about love? **
I remember buying that double-album (Physical Graffiti) when it first came out, back in high school. “Talking 'bout love,” was about the only thing we could understand from the whole song. But it had a kick-ass riff and a good hook, so who cared?

they had three or four songs that had “Tolkien” refs in them
.
Well, I guess I knew that much, lol
but most of the words are hard for me to understand, i could catch “transmission” and only a few other words
.
Now, this is a good thread.
great story behind “Boogie with Stu”, Ritchie Valens mom is credited on the album and other stuff cool
as you can see I am bit of a LZ fan.

Yeah, they were definitely part of the Cult of the Ring, for sure. Amazing what good hash and a few 'ludes can do for your thought processes ![]()

Don’t forget but Bob ,Robert Plant was not only hip to middle earth but he was also trying to get to Valhalla via the Immigrant Song and not Walhalla,S.C.

Depends - how old are you?
I was around when the album was released, and picked up the references right away - so product of the culture and all that.
Now if you ae just hitting it on second or nth cycle all can be forgiven - but if you are in your late 40s to early 50s -

Both. That was super geeky but geeks are cool. Love yourself for being a dork.

A geek is (per dictionary.com):** **a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
A dork is: a stupid or ridiculous person; jerk; nerd.
I say he is a geek, but not dislikable. Just overly peculiar and intellectual.
