Im looking for some cycling shorts (or maybe bib) to ride on the trainer in the winter time. Anyone have any recommendations for a clyde? (37-38" waist)
And Im open to suggestions for race shorts as well.

I use Pearl Izumi Microsensor bike shorts and Pearl tris shorts. The bike shorts are good and comfortable, but the Tris shorts are great, best tri shorts ive found (ive tried LG, Zoot, Orca, Desoto). The Pearly tri shorts are even comfortable for long trainer sessions.
Pearl also has a tri jersey that actually fits clydes, the problem is that it only has one small pocket, not good for long races.
I would suggest shifting from TRI. shorts and trying some true cycling shorts. I too am a clydesdale and have had good luck with some canari and sugoi (spelling ? ) shorts. They may be a little more expensive but the padding and durability are worth it.

Acutally Im looking for both training and race gear - i.e. suggestions for something to race in with a little lighter padding that I can swim and run in as well as bike

Something to put in long training rides in especially on the trainer which seems to be more painful than road riding…
Santini makes their bibs up to XXL. They are fairly comfy. Bibs are one of those things you have to try on or at least be able to send back. If the crotch to shoulder length is too short you will not be happy. A friend of mine is about your waist size and he likes castelli bibs. The shoulder straps are too short for me though. I’m a tall skinny clyde.
