As many of you know, I started playing the drums about 5 years ago. Some of you recall the early videos I posted. I went from, “don’t quit your day job,” to “not bad for a beginner,” to actually getting compliments! ; ^ )
Anyway, here’s a 5 minute video I put together to give you an idea of what it is I do. Quick summary - we book in a local pool hall, show up at 8:30 to start setting up equipment, get the 3 bands off at 10, 11, and 12, and then break down until after 2. We’ll clear anywhere from 30-80 paid heads in general.
Anyway, I’m the tall bald drummer in the band with the girl singer.
Enjoy! (or have a good laugh)
Not my cup of tea either, but I do have an appreciation for musicians getting up on stage and doing their thing and having a blast. So I’m jealous of you for that.
Now for something completely different. My son’s a 20yo singer/songwriter who’s been knocking around for a couple of years trying to find his thing. Here’s his latest offering which I think isn’t bad. But then I’m biased! Apologies for the picture quality, I recorded it on a borrowed camera and was unfamiliar with the settings.
Currently not at all. We had a hard time juggling our singer’s schedule then our guitar player took a supervisor’s position on night shift, so we haven’t had a practice since October. We’re hoping to start up again in March once a week-ish.
My cymbals (played by my band and by Von Kull) really cut through the recording. They sound pretty well balanced live (I can say that since I can actually hear them as a specator). It’s actually the kick drum that doesn’t come through enough live, despite two sub woofers.
All three bands cover Walk from time to time. At the end of the night Von Kull invited a friend of ours (the foot fetish guy from that Beavis and Butthead episode) to sing. Then they invited the guitar player from the first band to play. Then I came in to play the drums. When all was said and done, only the bass player from their band played…and someone spilled a beer on the power strip which shut the bass off.
Yeah, we were a mess, but the crowd still loved it. ; ^ )
Used to be in a band about 100 years ago myself…love your description of the entire night…spilled beer on the power strip sounds familiar…cool…keep banging away, its great therapy.
That chick is way better than Barry’s previous singer. Although that’s not really my genre of music, I enjoy listening to her wail and Barry’s drumming has improved immensely.
