Shop Mechanic help especially Klein

Hello,

A few years ago Klein road bikes came with Shimano STI shifters that had cable adjusters built into the shifters. The adjuster barrel was right where the cable housing normally seat into the side the the shifters. I am getting ready to rebuild my Cannondale and they dont have threaded bosses for the derailleurs. Cannondale gives in line cable adjusters, which I’m not too fond of. If possible i would like to go,with the Klein solution. Anyone know how to do this. I found these http://www.bikemannetwork.com/biking/p/CXSP/BR4048 which look like they could be epoxied into the STI lever and accomplish the task, but without ordering them I’m not really sure.

Thanks,

Styrrell

Those are exactly what you want. You don’t have to epoxy anything- they simply go in-line, but you can plug the one end into the STI lever. It is hard to tell by the picture, but the end that plugs in has a rubber ring around it so the whole unit doesn’t turn when you make an adjustment. I have them on my cyclocross bike and they work pretty well (I still prefer downtube adjusters).

Edit: Klein now offers Campagnolo components on several of the '05 and '06 models- these don’t have the shift housing out in the open like Shimano STI levers do. All the Campy Kleins on our shop floor use those same adjusters, but they actually plug into the internal cable guide holes in the frame. I think the adjusters work better as you mention (on Shimano STI) where they go right on the levers.
