Shoe Quandry

A question for the shoe gurus… What is the difference between the Ascic Majic Racer and the Asic Tiger Paw?

Thanks…

There’s a couple of distinct differences between the two…materials and profile/shape. First, the materials used to make the Magic Racer, primarily the upper, are of the highest quailty and performance-driven, The open mesh allows for ventilation, and the synthetic overlays are more subtle. The shape of the Tiger Paw is slightly wider, which makes it an option for more athletes. The slightly wider platform will also provide a bit more stability. Both shoes use GEL in the heel. The Magic Racer is about an ounce to an ounce and a half lighter, but feels much faster than the Tiger Paw (IMO). One last point, the Tiger Paw has a removable sockliner, the Magic Racer does not. If you have more questions, please let me know…either here or PM.

Thanks Shawn,

I am looking for a light weight shoe to do all my running in as my podiatrist is not a big fan of most running shoes with a built up heel. He said the Asic Magic Racer is a place to start and the Brooks T3 Racer. He said when Nike takes the Free 5.0 and slims down the heel this should be a good choice also. It seems most of my hard core running buddies are going with the “less is better” approach also. Is Asic mindful of this and new attitude and coming out with products to meet this need.

Thanks-

Wow, yeah - what he said
.

Wow…

My Dr. has told me the same thing after years of running, I would hope the shoe companies will start to catch on. But it seems too much money is a stake with the norm. I would be interested to know if Asic is looking into this area, as I buy the Majic Racers and shave down the heel…

I am in the same boat with you guys on this one… less is more.

Been fighting achilles problems for two months now. Only kept me from running for about 2 weeks over that period of time but it was just a hassle. My coach comes to town for a camp, plays with our strides, tells us to wear free’s or something that has NOTHING to it, in my case the DS racer, next thing you know… no problems. Amazing. I didnt run at all the week leading up to this past weekend’s camp and have now run 3 times since. It takes a few days of walking around toeing off on every step and getting your feet and calves stronger but man i love it. I can’t stand my orthotics anymore they drive me nuts.

less is MORE

the entire running shoe industry seems to be built upon the notion of fixing the symptoms and not the problems

Well, it is not exactly that simple. I see many pathologies all day that I would never put in a DS racer or the like. Most people on this board are FAR from the avg person and are already a runner, so the less is more approach to shoes often fits people here.

However, you are right that far too much “cookbook” medicine/recommendations are given - step on ink, foot is flat, go with stability/motion control, etc. This is NOT often the case.

We are mindful of this attitude, although it is not new. We are researching it and I’ll leave it at that. As far as what shoe to choose…I wear 1100s and DS-Trainers with orthotics, so I’m probably not the person to answer your question. From what I’ve seen on other message boards, the trend seems to be the Tiger Paw due to better durability of the outsole.
