Shoe problem--please help?

Carnac shoes and one of the holes in the shoe has stripped and can barely get bolt snug! Any ideas how to rethread?

Hi Matt,

On better shoes, you should be able to replace the plate with access from a cutaway panel on the inside of the shoe. Replace the plate and problem solved. If the designer of your particular shoe was a beer-swilling philistine, and did not include an access panel, then I believe you are screwed, and didn’t you want new shoes anyway?

I stand to be corrected, but I believe re-threading would be more trouble than it’s worth…

Matt,

I had a similar problem with some Northwave shoes I bought (one of the holes came without any threads whatsoever). I went to the hardware store and bought a self-tapping screw that was the largest size I could get into the hole and have had no trouble at all. Hope this helps.

Mike

There is no panel that I can see. They are the Carnac Quartz. You would think for that much money they would be.

Thanks for the help.

Before you try the self taping screw you might try getting someone to retap the hole or tap it for a bigger machine screw. Once you go the self taping screw, thats it, you can never go back.
