Shipping Bike?

How much does it usually cost to ship a bike via Fed Ex or UPS? From Chicago to Naples, FL. American Airlines wanted to charge me $80 each way.

Gracias!

I find the rate calculators on FedEx and UPS websites to be quite accurate. Just plug in the origin, destination, weight, and dimensions–there you have it. $80 seems about twice what it should cost, but I’m just guessing. I’m actually boxing up a bike tonight to ship out tomorrow, so I’ll let you know how much that costs (only from TN to IL). Good luck.

I only had to ship my bike once so far and used these guys:

Had a good experience. They have a tool for quotes on their site.

While it was ultimately shipped by FedEx, I paid less than what the FedEx site had quoted - and much less than Delta was asking for if I had taken it along as checked in over-sized luggage.

UPS ground is around $30 for a bike in a box. The deal is to get a USCF or NORBA license for $40 which includes as a benefit of membership, two United airlines bike vouchers ($160 in value). Doesn’t help you with American Airlines, but if United flies the route, may be worth flying them instead. Then use your tri-geek bike to crush the local USCF district timetrial!

2 things

First, the overweight baggage charge is $25 dollars each way. Walk up to the counter and tell them it’s over weight. Don’t tell them it’s a bike. Since 9-11 I’ve never paid more than $25 for the case on American, 4 RT’s.

Second, I just shipped a bike case UPS from AZ to Il for 50 with some stuff in it. Total weight was 48 or 49 pounds.
