I’ll be in Penticton this summer for IMC and was planning on staying an extra 2 weeks to do some hiking, white water rafting, camping and general relaxing at some hot springs. I’d love to be able to do this without the burden of having to carry around my bike box. Does anyone know if there is a place in Penticton where I could ship a bike from? I’ll be shipping within Canada.
The guys at thye Bike Barn can probably hook you up too. They quit recieving bikes because it’s such a pain in te ass with customs, etc - but I bet they’d be willing to ship one out for you.
There is a UPS store just up the street from the finish line. However, I would not recommend using them. While the price is not to high (~$90 to Houston, TX), if you are shipping it to the States, upon delivery they will tag you with customs and a broker fee. For me, that added an additional $75 or so (I don’t remeber exactly). I was not told of the additional fees and would not have used UPS if I had known.
Thanks for the info, I guess I’ll look into something when I’m out there, I’m glad I’ll have options. Also, I’ll be shipping from Canada to Canada so there should be no extra customs fees, it looks like UPS will be a good option! I wonder if a Trico Iron Case bike box is within their size/weight limits.
Where in Canada are you shipping to? I used a service from a local tri shop that drove my bike out and back last year. If your shipping to Ontario it might be a good option for you. I think he picked up in Milton, Toronto, Ottawa and Sudbury. If your interested I’ll find the information for you.
i routinely ship my bike using fedex ground (from ontario to edmonton for the summers, and viceversa).
it cost me about 50-70 dollars in a serfas ironcase each time, depending on insurance.
i wouldn’t use UPS again, way too expensive, and would NEVER use either shipping cross border (i got dinged 82 dollars duty/brokerage fees by fedex for a pair of shoes that are worth 200 last month…whereas with usps the cost was 20-30 dollars)
