Ow! Just been hit with the total charges of shipping a bike inter-island with hawaiin airlines. (Previous and incomplete information given to me was that the bike would be $35, however there now seems to be overweight and oversize charges added to this) I am sure that a lot of people have experience with how to do this, I am from Canada so Tri-Bike is not an option and Fedex is also much more expensive than from the USA. I am flying Westjet to Honolulu and Westjet are one of the best airlines when it comes to bike charges. So this is not too much of a problem.
However, it is looking very expensive to fly the bike between islands (I am exploring Aloha Air Cargo which someone on this forum has previously suggested) One of the things that I wanted to do after the race was visit another Island (Mauii). Because of the cost of inter-island flights, my husband and I were going to fly from Kona to Mauii and then back to Honolulu to connect with our flight back to Canada. Obviously this will be out of the question if i have to pay $85 per leg for the bike! Does anyone know of a way that I can ship the bike from Kona to Honolulu and have it stored to pick up on my return?
