I am working on my friends Specialized and it has a Tiagra chain with at least 4 too many links on it. Before I go to popping pins does anyone know if theses are like the HG Ultegra/DA chains in that they require the special pins from Shimano? I don’t see any kind of quick link on it…are these pins reusable?

I always push a pin part way out, shorten the chain then push that pin back in.
I’ve been doing it for years, even with today’s chains. You just have to make sure the pin goes back in correctly and the link moves freely.

Ok I will give it a shot. I bought off hook, line and sinker when Shitmano said we had to use their disposable link pins…figured it wasn’t worth a broken chain. Figured the Tiagra/Sora crap wouldn’t be so nice as to have such a ‘feature’
I’m fairly sure that Tiagra is 9 speed. You can pick up a new 9 speed chain for less than $25 anyway.
