Shimano Parts, Repair Turnaround Question

A month ago I took my road bike to the local bike shop for repair. The left Shimano 105 shifter had broken. The bike shop had to send the part to Shimano. They told me it would take about two weeks. Here it is a month later and I still have no road bike!

Has anyone dealt with Shimano and parts repair/turn around? If so, how long does it usually take? I am pretty damn annoyed at this point, but there is nothing I can do. The bike shop claims it isn’t their fault.

Shimano was probably backlogged on parts - I broke my left 105 shift lever (as have many others) after just 1 cross season. Replaced (as I figured to anyway - bike came with it) with old Campy Record levers off my road bike (that can be repaired by yourself).

Depending on the repair cost, I’d be inclined to put that money into something else (SRAM Rival is nice for the cost for ex)

What the hell? Your left 105 shifter broke also? Are they defective or something? The bike store CLAIMED my Shimano shifter is the first one they ever had break since the store opened last year. I don’t really trust them because they lied about other things.

I wish I was smart enough to repair things myself. I am really disappointed in the service I have received.

I looked on Amazon. It looks like SRAM Rival shifters cost about $300 and Shimano 105 is $260ish.

Are SRAM Rivals really good? (Note: I know nothing about bikes, I just like to ride)

6 weeks for me to get a new axle for my XTR Shimano mtn bike wheel. Their turn around sucks.

All big 3 (Shimano, Campy and SRAM) function well (top 3 tiers anyway) with only different ergonomics, really. But my biggest beef with Shimano is that the costly STI brifters are not really end user serviceable - Campy levers are. Not easy, but a few small parts and good local shop, and back to functioning. Problem with Campy is compatibility, esp with tribikes and at the races with neutral support.
