You guys are finding absurd, and I emphasize absurd, examples. I’m talking about basic Shimano fishing reels, not ones, made for deep sea, Shark Fishing in jakarta or something. Let’s face it, the basic reel technology is probably at least as substantial as the bike shifters.
Using Shimano reels brings hours of relaxation, peace and if you are lucky some excitement and a damned good feed.
Using Shimano bike products brings repetition, a sore arse, potential anaerobic agony and makes you hungry.
They are trying to save us from ourselves with their pricing structure but we just aren’t listening!
I would guess ,as in all things in life, Its the liability insurance. Lets face it ,when was the last time your reel broke and made you swerved into traffic. And yes A tiagra reel would be equal to shimano ultegar / Dura ace group , BEST IS BEST.
Altus A30 shifters are pretty technical in their design and construction, and about $18 a pair.
