Safety issue so lets bump this so it’s on the front page for a couple of days.

I picked up UK cycling magazine today it has a half page sheet out the recall. That means they have had the info for at least 3 months because it take that long to go to press. I seems strange the we are just getting this info now. I will go have them checked right away.

German-speaking cycling magazines have had the info since at least December, no reason to fault Shimano on this.

Why would they have not let the US know at the same time? I would be upset if the rest of the world knew and I or someone I know was hurt or killed because of the problem that I know nothing about. It also seems that they would want it out to everyone right away. Don’t you think that would be a big lawsuit risk for them too?

Well on the one hand I don’t have all too much sympathy for you poor souls in the US not being informed directly (the other way around, it always seems to be enough that US companies announce their recalls first and mostly only in the US), on the other hand it is slightly weird that the recall was on the European web site on the 1st of December and seems to have hit the US website just a couple of days ago.

Date and place of release on the website:

Shimano Recalls Aftermarket Brake Cables
01/27/2004
IRVINE, CA

I guess the US market was well aware of it long long ago.

The 2004 is very likely a typo (the brake cables in question were manufactured till March 2004 …).

Bump for the Monday crowd.

Here’s a link provided by Mike at Chain Reaction in Redwood City, CA regarding how to identify the cables:
