I am getting shoes for my Dad for his b-day/fathers day.(That’s why I’m not getting myself a pair this year) It’s the one thing he needs to match his stylin’ new Kuota.
Dad’s size is nearly always 12 in Nike and New Balance. In shimano road shoes that is … ?
Instead of waiting on hold for “techinical support” from Performance or Nashbar I’m hoping someone here will help me. You guys know more anyway Thanks in advance. -TB
I’m a US10 in Nike run shoes (44 Eur), a US9.5 in New Balance run shoes (43 Eur), but 43 in Nike (poggio) and Shimano (TR01) bike shoes, (though a 42 in Northwaves!!)
.
Get your dad a gift certificate and let him try the shoes on in person at an LBS. Sizing varies from brand to brand, especially between running and riding shoes. FWIW: I bought the shimano TR2’s and the new road 215’s or whatever their called and I wear 42.5 (8.5), but in Carnac and Time I wear a 42 (8-ish). My running shoes is 9.5. Confusing? Yes. It’s not so much about size as what feels right, so you gotta try them on, period.
Excelsports.com has some conversion charts between cycling shoe brands, check there, or call them, much more knowledgeable helpful than nashbar.
Or just buy a size close to what you think is right, so he has a cool gift to open and be excited about. Ask the shop you buy them from if he can exchange them for anther size. Shouldn’t be a problem, but some shops are not friendly.
I have a pair of 45EUR TR01s and wear an 11.5US. 45.5EUR would have been better for winter (ie with socks) with my insoles I ride with.
