Shimano 105 cranks not self-extracting out of box?

I purchased a set of black Shimano 105 cranks for a rebuild project for my wife and son. I sure was surprised to find out that a tool and that little plug that comes with the cranks are necessary to remove the arms. I ASSumed they were like my Ultegra cranks, just heavier. Not so, apparently.

I haven’t opened the bolt bag yet (‘cause this situation ain’t sittin’ right with me yet), but anybody know if there are caps that come with the set and has anyone used Problem Solver self-extracting bolts with 105 cranks?

Your advice is appreciated.

Sean

The packaging is correct - 105 cranks come with standard crank bolts. But you should be able to use any type of self-extracting bolts in their stead. I’ll warn you that the Ultegra/DA ones are way overpriced. I think the wholesale cost for one side is like $10. There goes the cost savings over Ultegra… You could probably buy a crank-puller for less than the cost of the SE bolts.

If you don’t plan on switching out the cranks very often, go ahead and use the 105 bolts.
