Hi all,
I have a Shimano Dura Ace 10-speed groupset on my race bike…thing is apart from my race wheels I have a training wheel with a 9-speed cassette.
We all know how much more expensive the 10-speed cassettes are…I’d rather not have to buy another Dura Ace 10-speed cassette for the training wheel as well…especially as Ultegra 10-speed is on sale as from December.
As far as I can tell from using it…the 9-speed cassette works perfectly with the 10-speed chain, derailleurs etc…the shifting is normal.
Is this the case…or will I damage anything in the long run…thanks for replies!!!
Like you said, it works fine. The only thing is that the lower rear gear on the derailleur doesn’t exist on the cog, so you just have to be carefull not to use it if else your chain will be stuck between the cog and the frame. Hope you got the point.
You can go this way, but not the other. The 10 speed chain is so thin. Just be carefull if you shift under a heavy load, like climibing/standing, as you may some “jumping” on the rear
