Shawn still lurking, I have a?

Ok, so I dont know what the problem is.

I rode my Mtn bike today and tire pressures meant to be 35-80 psi, pumped them up, rear to 75 I think.

Anyway I rode the tire off the rim and had a puncture and I dont know whether the puncture came first or the riding the tire off of the rim.

Could to much pressure have caused this?

ok, a bit of time here while my little boy falls asleep, and before I climb on my trainer during his nap…

first possible problem, a tube looses pressure over time, if you inflated it from flat or very little pressure and the bead of the tire was not seated in the rim totally then you could ride miles before you get a blow out, and that is what it would be, a blow out…bang.

second, small puncture, inflate to 75 go riding, tire deflates to 20 or less, take corner flop, tire rolls off rim because not enough pressure to hold bead on rim.

third, a possible pinch flat. in this case, you would notice a rather rapid deflation befor the tire rolled off the rim.

bottom line, put in a new tube, make sure you slowly inflate checking that the tire is seated the whole time, then inflate to pressure. carry a spare.

oh yeah if this is a one time occurance with this tire probably not seated properly. if occuring often the bead on the tire is probably shot, replace tire.
