I saw a TSR jersey out there yesterday. Cool looking top. Beautiful day in SF.
Heather Gollnick was also out there racing. Quite a surprise to see her in SF!
Was she the blonde gal wth the big guns???
I hear Heather was in town as she is changing teams from Timex/QR to Felt (and Nabisco?). Apparently she is going to visit Jim Felt up in Auburn this week.
Saw her at the end of the race and said hi. Maybe she gets tired of people acting like they know her but she was friendly and said hello in return. She is a real hottie in my book.
You are right it was a beautiful day in SF. Do you think the race was slower, faster or same with course change?
I knew the course felt a bit different but couldn’t put my finger on where. It felt like the long gradual downhill was broken up more this year. I think I worked harder to run the same time.
I raced last year in 1:15 and ran 12 miles this year at about 6:10 pace with a couple of friends as a training run…I think the course is definitely 20-30 seconds slower with the additional climbs up to Stow Lake and the 3-4 more 90 degree turns. Still a great PR course though, and another beautiful SF day.
I passed Heather Gollnick at about mile 7 or 8, I think she went out a bit too hard…but she looked strong on the last climb. A friend of mine was chasing her the last few miles but didn’t manage to catch up to her.
A lot of people complained that the new 5K course was wayyyyyy long.
That was Cousin Elwood.

The difference was the half-mile or so of gradual uphill and rollers leading up to and around Stow Lake Drive. Normally the course takes a sharp right turn to enter the museum concourse around miles 3-4, after which it heads back through the starting area, but the concourse is currently under heavy construction. Instead, the course continued straight a while longer, and turned right onto Stow Lake Drive before returning to the start area.
It did add a wee bit of climbing but I don’t think it was significant. Certainly not enough to explain my 9-minute slowdown from last year. ![]()
