Hard to talk about without spoilers, but the season 2 finale is spectacular. One of those things i wish I could watch again for the first time.
I watched the season finale this past Friday. We watched season 1 back in 2021 but watched season 1 again just before season 2 came out as a refresher. I liked it. Would give it 4 out of 5 stars compared to everything available to stream these days. They do a great job with the dark, dystopian depressing backdrop. It reminds me of so many places in America that have this hopeless feeling. I thought the acting was very good. Mark’s innie and outie communicating on the last episode was good. I’m rooting for both to take down Lumen in the next season. I do find it disturbing how Lumen kidnapped Gemma leaving Mark so depressed that he would need to “sever”.
I do like how the “innies” might be the best versions of themselves. A sort of innocence and chance at being better people. And is it fair to end their lives? Maybe re-integration solves that somehow in season 3.
Is that why Lumon took Gemma? To get Mark? I must have missed that. But why him?
It’s all been somewhat implied. I don’t know if there’s anything particularly special about Mark – but more because they are/were a couple. Testing Gemma’s severed fears and memories (with Mark unknowingly creating them through each file completion).
Not sure why. But my take is that Lumon has created something so powerful where you cannot remember deeply loved ones and painful experiences. So the company targeted a couple and took one of them hostage (Gemma). Mark was so grief stricken he decided to become severed. Gemma is Miss Casey in the severed world and meets with Mark a few times. He has a session with her in season one. They don’t recognize each other. But Lumen wants to be sure nothing will trigger memories and keep it permanent. So, Gemma is a lab rat at Lumen. Cold Harbor is her final room where she takes apart a crib. To make sure she didn’t remember the most painful memory of miscarriage. These are just my thoughts on all this.
I think there is more to why Lumen targeted Mark and Gemma but we’ll have to wait for season 3. Hopefully it won’t take another 3 years!
I sort of thought Gemma just came into their radar because she was seeking fertility drugs/treatment from Lumon.
Not sure but the whole Gemma thing is the part that really sticks out for me as not believable (or not explained). How did they fake a death with no body found or did the switch Gemma with another cadaver to be cremated, etc…
Why go to all the trouble…they could have easily kidnapped someone else, or even grabbed Gemma another less convoluted way.
If you think they created this tragedy / accident / miscarriage, just to set Mark up to become a severed, along with Gemma…those dots are just too hard to connect to be believable.
Enjoyed season 1. Season 2 is kinda meh.
Reminds me of heroes. Great season 1 followed by a confusing morass.
This happened this weekend about three miles from my house.

All the actors were there with the exception of Christopher Walken, but those were the only two who were walking around. We couldn’t see the stage well enough to enjoy their Q&A, so we left.
We’re the Innies there or just the Outies.
