Serotta CXII tri bike comments?

Can anyone comment on their experience with the Serotta CXII tri bike? I have to admit that I’m intrigued by the possibility of a steel tri bike…

Thanks,
Michael Bey

I can not specifically comment on the model in question, but I can say that you can not go wrong ordering any product from Serotta. I rode for a team in the 80’s that used Serotta frames and they were sweet . Now this may no longer be the case but the only problem I foresee with such a purchase is that I have heard tell of a 16-18 month lag between order and delivery. :^<

Michael

Well, I got mine in 3 weeks. I don’t have much time on the bike yet, and I"m still tweaking my position a little. So, I’m not in the position to give an indepth review.

My other bike is a Serotta CSi, and I can give you a limited comparions between the two. The bottom bracket on the CXII is stiffer, the CXII is lighter and as far as comfort level I would say the CSi wins here. You can always have a little more vertical compliance built into the frame if you wish.

I already knew that Serotta builds a great bike, so I knew that I couldn’t go wrong. What I enjoyed most was being able to design the bike as I wanted. My bike has a 72 degree head angle, 43 mm rake on the fork, 8cm bottom bracket drop, and a 40cm chainstay. The bike handles like a dream and I can freely use all gear combos.

There is a picture of the bike on Serotta’s website. The have a gallery in their forum. The heading is titled, “My new CXII”

Also if you live near Ohio, go to Oakley Cycles in Cincy, they specialize in custom builds.

I spoke to my LBS which fits for Serotta’s and they think the bike is great. I own a Serotta Legend Ti and it is the best bike I have ever owned. I don’t think you can go wrong with any Serotta product, but I’m partial. The company is also located just north of me in Saratoga and their reputation locally is excellent.

Great bike. You can check out mine at http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=77169;search_string=CXII;#77169.

Glad to hear about the 3 week delivery time! I have a Concours CS on order, and it will be 3 weeks on Thursday. I can’t wait!

I was told the CS version takes a couple of extra weeks. Sorry to burst your bubble. Have you called Serotta or your Dealer to see where it is in production? It’s quick and easy.

I don’t own a serotta but I have long looked at them becuase of a key 7 word phrase

custom geometry included at no additional charge

With all of the talk about proper fit you would be hard pressed to be better fit than on a custom bike. If you are on the east coast and are interested in a Serotta I would definately get in touch with Paul Levine. his website is www.sinaturecycles.com (i think) he is an amazing fitter and a great guy.

bvously serotta makes incredible bikes but more than anythign the selling poin for me is the custom geometry

Michael I see you are in Detroit. I am in Hazel Park, MI at Continental bike shop and I have the CXII in stock. If you are interested come in and see me or call, (248)-545-1225. Just like any Serotta you will not be disappointed.

The CXII is a very nice looking bike. Should be very functional.
I’d steer clear of the Axiom though. It’s just plain ugly.
