Let me start by saying there will be at least one on the pier next week - but I’m a lottery slug so I guess it really doesn’t count.
First, if you don’t know the difference between a standard welded frame and a lugged frame, you probably will have a hard time seeing the value in a hand-crafted bike.
If you fit a standard frame, then a Serotta ‘custom’ is probably overkill - you’ll spend twice as much without much improvement in the ride.
Finally, if you want or need a custom and can afford/value the aesthetics of a lugged frame, then you might like a Serotta. I rode my Ottrott on the Paris-Roubaix cobbles this past Spring and it performed like a champ. The hardest part buying a custom frame is deciding on the paint scheme. My tip is solid color with white or contrasting decals - Candy Apple Red with white decals and white bar tape looks nice. Either way, Good luck.
