He gave props to the smartasscoach at the end of his article, so he appears to be happy with his choice. I’m sure however, that if he approached Byrn/Scott/Molina they’d be willing to work with him.
In Reply To Thanks. I enjoyed that. Very nice of Sergio to write that great piece. I can’t get over how well he writes in English. If one of the big gun coaches like Byrn or Scott would take Sergio under his wing, he would soon be a threat at Hawaii.

Paulo (aka smartasscoach) is one of the better coaches out there. Better than gordo’s huge volume regime imo. Why would Sergio want to change coaches when he already has a really great one?

Anyway, i´m happy with what i´ve got. I have been with Paulo, my coach, since the first day in tri world when i joined a team do do some triathlon for fun. He had some wrong predictions since i know him like uuuuuuh, the first time i went to a 50m pool back in 2001 and he asked me to swim a bit and i replied, “i dont think that i can get to the other end of the pool” and the comment was “you can be a good duathlete” 
and the 2:50 marathon on IMMOO was far from what i did but thats more my fault because i kinda change my race plan during the bike…
So, unless i have a fight with Paulo for a slice of PIZZA ill stay with what i´ve got

Well it seems like the smartass-krew is here so I think I have to say something…
Smartasscoach did one thing that I’d doubt that any of that coaches you mentioned would do. Sergio, ex-rower, never had been at a swimming pool before 2001. Starting from zero in three years of work, Sergio swam 54min in IMMoo. Think about it…
It’s really easier to work with a coach that lives 3 miles away from you, from the pool were you swim and from the place were you run.
This is smartasscoach’s first major international “win” but here, in Portugal, he has been coach of the year for the past three years, so he’s not any coach.
Well sometimes he has his things… there are some PIZZA-related stories (eheheh)… but hey… who’s perfect?

Anyway, so many people talking about me, since I’m standing right here, I’ll add my opinion.
The question of an athlete “outgrowing” his coach is an interesting one, and of course one that interests me. What I think is that as long as a coaching relationship is successful, and both parties are happy with it, there is no need to question it.
In the future things might change and if they do, I’ll be the first to tell Sérgio, or any other of my athletes to “move on”. I am friends with all my athletes, past and current, no exception, and all I want is their success. That might well be with another coach than me. It never happened to me, having an athlete leave me to be more successful after leaving me, but it might happen. I’ve had the contrary happen, athletes that weren’t successful with others coaches and then were succefull with me, and that is very rewarding.
As for someone that mentioned Byrn in the same sentence as Scott and Molina, I think Gordo would be the first to point out the greatness of the latter too. I don’t think I have to explain that to anyone, it is self-evident. Particularly I like Dave Scott a lot, both as an athlete and as a coach. His advice is a blend of solid scientific knowledge and his experience as an athlete and the things he says make a lot of sense.
Speaking of Dave Scott, Sergio has this joke. Sometimes when I’m late with his schedule or he thinks I’m not giving his training the proper attention, he’ll pick up his cell phone and say: “Hello, Dave Scott???” :-)))

Yes and No. I have one baby daughter, a baby boy on the way, and a job so not enough time. amazing feat from no swimming to 54 minutes! right now im at 1:07, id be thrilled with 59:59, just cant get to the pool enough. I could never be as fast as Sergio!
From 1:07 to 59:59 is certainly possible, but you would have to put in the work and have an on-deck coach. None of that send-me-the-video-I-will-send-you-drills BS

How about a masters program?
It all depends on the coach running the program. There are good coaches and bad coaches
